CHINNOR PARISH COUNCIL
NEWSLETTER
February 2009
The Club is continuing to increase in popularity with good attendance
at both Monday and Thursday evening. The Club rooms are now complete and
decorated, and comfortably furnished.
WE NOW NEED MORE VOLUNTEERS TO STAFF THE MONDAY SESSION.
If you feel that you could help, even if you have no experience, or
could only help occasionally, please contact Liz Folley at the Parish office,
who will put you in contact with the Club leaders.
All households in the Parish should have received a copy of the new guide. The guide is published by the Parish Council approximately every 5 years and contains details of all the local organisations who wished to be included.
If you have not received your copy, please collect one free of charge
at the Parish office in
In addition to the Guide, the Parish office now has an array of leaflets covering a range of entertainment, goods, and services (including bus and train information) available in the locality. The leaflets are available free of charge during office opening hours.
Please make full use of this facility, because if we don’t use it we will lose it.
Police
There have been disturbing reports recently of a group of youths from outside the Village coming to Chinnor to cause trouble with local youths. The Police are aware of the situation and are dealing with it. If you have any relevant information that may assist them, please contact them on 0845 8 505 505, speak to one of our PCSOs’, or contact the Parish office who will be able to put you in touch with the Police.
At a recent forum at
Recently published crime figures show that Chinnor is a particularly safe place to be with one crime per 100 head of population, (Thame has 3/100 and Wheatley 7/100).
and with no serious violent crimes.
Be warned, don’t litter, and clear up after your dog!
The Parish Council have written to Oxfordshire County Council (OCC) expressing concern over the deteriorating state of the Parish roads, and the poor quality of the repairs that are carried out.
The recent bad weather has seriously increased the damage to the road surfaces, but unfortunately, as this is a County wide problem, we can only expect a limited response to it, due to OCC’s stretched resources.
The Parish Council will continue to monitor the state of the Parish’s roads and report damage to OCC.
The Parish Council, with the co-operation of other organisations have now compiled a draft plan to be instigated in the event
of a ‘Flu pandemic being declared by the World Health Organisation. The plan is
based on a list of volunteers who will act as “Street Friends”, who will be the
first point of contact for neighbours who need support when taken ill. Likely
tasks may include shopping, delivery of meals via the Village Centre, and
getting prescriptions dispensed.
The “Street Friends” will not
be expected to give medical help or any other assistance with which they are
not comfortable.
We have had a pleasing response to our request for volunteers, but we
still need more, and anyone who feels they could help should fill in the
tear-off form at the bottom of this letter, and return it to the Parish Office
in
