Christmas Carol Event and Christmas tree location - UPDATE

Please see below a prepared statement by CPC regarding the Christmas Carol event.

This was planned to be posted to coincide with the CPC newsletters and Pump distribution around the village – as not everyone is on FB. Due to unnecessary pressure on the Chinnor Residents FB page we have made the decision to post on FB earlier than planned.

To note– The event is NOT run by CPC but a very successful independent committee. CPC had involvement due to the need of using our Public Liability Insurance cover for the road closure.

To note – Duo Chef own the land the tree used to be situated in – CPC have zero power to improve land which is not in their ownership – attempts have been made to contact them, but to no avail.

Thank you for all of the responses in our community engagement – please see below an update following community responses and CPC meetings...

CPC has reviewed all comments made by email, in person and on Facebook. This event is important to the community and it has been a difficult decision to make.

The poll results showed in favour of moving the event to the Community Pavilion.

Poll results: 388 move to Pavilion, 151 remain at Keens Lane.

CPC have met with some of the main organising committee and have discussed all of the options available.

This event is not run by CPC at all and the sincerest thanks given to everyone who has been involved in making this a huge success over the past 48 years and we hope it will continue long into the future.

The committee has agreed to move the event, the reasons are mainly down to health and safety as the event is gaining popularity every year and the safety of everyone is of the utmost importance.

As you may have been aware the tree foundations in the Duo Chef Garden area are in danger of collapse and the tree had to be staked last year to stop it falling on the road / pavement or any pedestrians.

The event will therefore be relocated to the Community Pavilion on Christmas Eve 2018.

The organising committee will be looking at planning the event including investigating options for staging, amplification and lighting.

The event will not change in its entirety – it is only in a new, safer area. All monies raised will still go to local charities appointed by the organising committee.
